The German band Talix was a side project of The Jay Five, a beat group from Würzburg that had been active since 1965. It was founded in Cologne in 1970 by members of The Jay Five: saxophonist and flautist Elmar Kast, guitarist Joe Voggenthaler, bassist Tom Wohlert and drummer Klaus-Dieter Blahak. Singer Klaus Gebauer, Volker Plitz on keyboards and as lyricist, and Markus Schaub as an additional guitarist completed the septet. Thanks to the musicians’ reputation in the Cologne music scene, they secured a record deal with Vogue Schallplatten. In the same year, they recorded their debut album Spuren under the name Talix, produced by keyboardist Volker Plitz.
It was released in 1971 in Germany only and features progressive pop-rock centred on guitar and saxophone passages, complemented by keyboards and flute, as well as vocals with German lyrics. As the German subsidiary of the Vogue label was liquidated shortly afterwards, there was no promotion at all and the first and only Talix LP remained completely unknown. Like the albums by label mates Arzachel, Andromeda, Whalefeathers and Nosferatu, this release is also an extremely rare album that is highly prized among collectors. As it has never been officially reissued, it now fetches exorbitant prices.
