Formed in the late 60s, Whalefeathers soon became one of Cincinnati's biggest bands of the late 60s and early 70s. They recorded their second album, released in the USA in 1970, with the following line-up: Michael Jones (g, voc), Ed Blackmon (p, keyb, voc), Leonard LeBlanc (b, voc) and Stephe Bacon (dr, perc). They mainly played heavy rock based on keyboard-orientated psychedelia and hard blues rock. Despite the release of their self-titled LP a year later in England (Blue Horizon), Germany (Vogue Schallplatten) and France (Excello), the American psychedelic band failed to achieve a breakthrough. They subsequently disbanded in 1972.
Today, all of their first pressings are extremely valuable collector's items for record lovers.
