The power trio Reaction was formed in Hamburg in the early 1970s by guitarist and singer Peter Braun, bassist Luigi De Luca and drummer Holger Tempel. With their impressive „power rock“, they played numerous successful gigs in clubs and discotheques across Northern Germany, which were accompanied by positive press reviews. This caught the attention of the major label Polydor, with whom they subsequently signed a record deal. In the spring of 1972, they recorded their self-titled debut album at Star Studio Hamburg, produced by Gerd Müller. It was released that same year by Polydor in Germany with a whimsical front cover design depicting a white mouse on a blue cactus. This was created by the graphic designer and photographer Holger Matthies, who had previously worked for Dies Irae and McChurch Soundroom.

In contrast to this surrealist motif, the music is earthy and down-to-earth. They played loud, aggressive, bluesy hard rock with a dynamic rhythmic foundation, that could easily compete with the great cult bands of the international heavy blues rock scene of that era. Frontman and vocalist Peter Braun deserves special mention for his impressive and creative guitar playing. Although Polydor promoted the band’s first album extensively, it received little attention at the time and remained their last. Following several line-up changes, the group disbanded in 1974. The very rare original German Polydor fetches high prices today.
