The first and only album by McChurch Soundroom, produced by Jürgen Schmeisser with the collaboration of Conny Plank as sound engineer. Founded in September 1970, the Swiss formation from Basel consisted of Sandro Chiesa aka Sandy McChurch (voc, fl, g), Heiner Althaus (g), Kurt Hafen (b) and Norbert „Nobbi“ Jud (dr) plus Alain Veltin (p, org, voc), who joined later and completed the quintet. After countless sessions in their „soundroom“, they secured a recording contract with the rare BASF sub-label Pilz. In just two days, they recorded their debut album at Star Studios in Hamburg in 1971, which was released in Germany in the same year. They played jazz-influenced, sometimes hard blues-rock jams, complemented by progressive arrangements with Hammond organ and expressive flute elements. It remained with this one album and the group split up soon afterwards. Not only the release on the rare and sought-after Pilz label, but also the iconic cover with the skull in melting candle wax, designed by Holger Matthies, certainly contributes to the legendary status of this album as an ultra-collector's item.
