The power trio Reaction was founded in Hamburg in the early 1970s by Peter Braun (g, voc), Luigi De Luca (b) and Holger Tempel (dr). In the spring of 1972, they recorded their eponymous debut album, which was released in Germany by Polydor. The cover design, featuring a white mouse on a blue cactus, was created by graphic designer and photographer Holger Matthies, who had also worked for Dies Irae and McChurch Soundroom. In contrast to this surrealistic motif, the music is grounded and down-to-earth. They played a loud, hard and aggressive blues rock that could easily compete with the big cult bands of international heavy blues rock of the era. Nevertheless, the album received little attention at the time and the band broke up soon after the release of their only album. The very rare Polydor original fetches high prices today.
