Four young Swiss friends, singer Chris Meyer, guitarist and bassist Mark Treuthardt, keyboardist Roger Page and drummer Diego Lecci, formed the band Pacific Sound in Neuchâtel in 1970. Their first single won the first prize from the European POP Jury in Cannes in 1970. This marked the band’s breakthrough. With their heavy, psychedelic 1960s blues rock, they toured successfully throughout Switzerland. This secured them a record deal with the small Swiss label Splendid Records (Country Lane, After Shave). In late 1971, they recorded their debut album Forget Your Dream! at Soundcraft Studio in Biel, produced by the label’s owner, Jean-Pierre Louvin. It was released in January 1972 with a spectacular cover design by the Swiss graphic designer Bernard Jequier.
The music on the album, inspired by the psychedelic era of the late 1960s and early 1970s, ranges from organ-heavy, hard-hitting rock with powerful, bluesy guitar riffs to slower tracks that lean slightly towards progressive rock. Shortly before their first European tour, however, all the members except Roger Page left the band, leaving him alone. Various attempts to find replacement musicians failed, so Page finally gave up. Today, their first and only LP is a highly prized collector’s item worldwide, featuring one of the most impressive album covers.
