The Swiss power trio After Shave was formed in Biel in 1968 and released a sole album. After several line-up changes, the following line-up was established: Pierre-Alain Kessi (vocals and guitar), Jean-Claude Fontana (bass) and Rodolphe Baumgartner (drums). Numerous live gigs in Switzerland, France and Germany finally brought them a record deal. Their guitar-driven early ’70s hard rock, with brilliant guitar work and a rock-hard rhythm section, was recorded in several sessions over the years 1971 and 1972 at Soundcraft Studio in Biel.

Their debut album Skin Deep was then released in 1972 on the legendary Swiss label Splendid Records (Country Lane, Pacific Sound), with cover design by Bernard Jequier. To promote it, they performed regularly in clubs across Switzerland and even played at an open-air concert in front of tens of thousands of people. Even performing as the support act for some of the best-known bands of the time, such as the Spencer Davis Group, failed to bring the hoped-for breakthrough, and their LP went completely unnoticed. A few years later, the band split up due to a lack of money. Today, their first and only LP as an underground hard rock album is a valuable collector's item, commanding large sums of money.
