The legendary group Message came from Düsseldorf and was founded by bassist Horst Stachelhaus in 1968. At the beginning of the 70s, the two Brits Allan Murdoch (g) and Tommy McGuigan (voc, sax) joined the band. Together with Gerhard Schaber (perc, voc) and Billy Tabbert (g, spinet, voc), they recorded their first LP The Dawn Anew Is Comin at Dieter Dierks Studios in 1972. The result, produced by Peter Hauke, was progressive hard rock, often led by two hard, driving lead guitars, sometimes supplemented with psychedelic elements of saxophone and organ. Guest musician James Allan Freeman contributed occasional Mellotron interludes. Released in 1972 on the Bellaphon sub-label Bacillus Records, this release was only a modest success. Like the subsequent album, the first pressings of these two albums are coveted collector's items today.
