The London hard rock band with a bluesy and psychedelic flair consisted of Peter French (voc) and Mick Halls (g), both from Black Cat Bones, the brothers Derek (g) and Stuart Brooks (b) as well as Keith George-Young (dr). The band name and song titles come from horror stories by the British writer Herbert Van Thal. They recorded their only album Growers of Mushroom in 1970 in the Spot Studios in Mayfair, London, in just a few hours. The album was originally released on the German Telefunken label. However, two songs were simply forgotten, namely the title song and the first track Freelance Fiend. This was then corrected in the English Decca edition, which was released a year later in 1971. But by that time the band no longer existed.
Ultimately, this is one of the best 70s heavy rock bands that never had as much success as it deserved. Nowadays, however, it is recognized as such worldwide. Therefore, not only is the English Decca original priceless, but also the German edition, which at least includes a poster (!), is sought after worldwide and extremely expensive.
