From The Gods to Head Machine to Toe Fat to Uriah Heep. Ken Hensley's impressive artistic career left behind numerous musical gems (not forgetting the German-English collaboration Weed, which also led to an album in 1971). The album Orgasm, recorded at the end of 1969, was actually a project by London psychedelic rockers The Gods and was planned as their third album. It was produced by David Paramor, who also produced the two albums by The Gods. However, the LP, released in 1970 by Major Minor, appeared under the name Head Machine, with all the band members listed under pseudonyms on the cover, presumably for legal reasons. John Glascock as „John Leadhen“ (b, voc), Brian Glascock as „Brian Poole“ (dr), Lee Kerslake „Lee Poole“ (dr), Mike Road (perc) and singer, keyboardist and guitarist Ken Hensley under the pseudonym „Ken Leslie“ took centre stage.
On this blues-based hard rock album with some psychedelic and progressive elements, he preferred his guitar far more than the keyboards that later made him famous. Powerful guitar riffs combined with lyrics that clearly lean towards intimacy, sex and climax, as the provocative LP title already reveals. At the same time, in 1969, Cliff Bennett, Ken Hensley, John Glascock and Lee Kerslake got together and formed a new band called Toe Fat. Head Machine's first and only LP was released in a limited edition and has since become a sought-after collector's item.
