Hallelujah was originally a duo consisting of German Paul Vincent, guitarist with Missus Beastly, and Englishman Keith Forsay, drummer with Doldinger's Motherhood and Amon Düül II, among others. They met in Munich in 1970 at a gig where they spontaneously performed and jammed together. After finalising a concept for an LP and securing a contract with Ambassador Music in London through Forsay's mediation, they recorded their debut album Hallelujah Babe at Tangerine Studios in London. They were supported by the excellent studio musicians Pete „Funk“ Wood on keyboards and bassist Rick Kemp. They played a diverse mix of powerful progressive rock with Hammond organ, choral arrangements and occasional heavier guitar solos, a few sparse, folky pieces with guitar and vocals, and psychedelic influences.
Their first and only album was released in 1971 on the German Metronome label, unfortunately only in Germany. It received no attention whatsoever and therefore sold poorly. After Paul Vincent and Keith Forsay were unable to pay additional musicians for their live performances to promote the album, they eventually gave up. German Metronome originals are extremely rare and fetch a price of many hundreds of euros in top condition.
