English guitarist and singer-songwriter Gordon Jackson from Worcester recorded his only LP, Thinking Back, with an all-star line-up of prominent musicians from the British rock and pop scene of the late 1960s, including famous bands such as Traffic, Family and Spooky Tooth. These were primarily the Traffic musicians Steve Winwood (b, p), Chris Wood (fl, sax), Jim Capaldi (dr, voc) and Dave Mason (g, b), who also produced the album, with whom he had been associated for years. The album was released in England in 1969 in a limited edition of only 2,000 copies on Giorgio Gomelsky's Marmalade label, with a cover showing his daughter Cherie shedding a tear. It contains a very personal collection of self-penned songs of a meditative, contemplative nature in a mostly melancholic acid folk atmosphere. Occasional tabla and sitar sounds lend it Indian and African elements.
Unfortunately, distribution problems arose and the album did not receive the appropriate advertising and promotion it deserved, despite its obvious potential. Added to this was the early bankruptcy of the label, which hit Gordon Jackson hard. He was now sidelined in the music business, while most of his former musician friends were making big careers with other bands. The album by this long-overlooked talent is now considered a gem of British acid folk rock.
