Black Spirit was a bluesy hard rock band founded in 1970 in Wolfsburg by four Italian musicians who earned their living as factory workers at VW in Germany. After initially touring pubs and discos playing covers of Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin, they later began writing their own songs. With their earthy heavy blues rock, they successfully performed as the support act for live bands such as Nektar, Eloy and the early Scorpions. In 1973, they decided to record a tape, just as a demo to develop further ideas. At that time, the band consisted of keyboardist and lead singer Salvatore Curto, lead guitarist Nicola Ceravolo, bassist Giovanni Granato and drummer Gianni Piras.

Contrary to the information on the cover, sound engineer Johnny Pesce was only the producer and not a drummer. He left the group after the recording sessions were completed and took the tapes with him without informing his bandmates. The musicians also didn't know about the release of an LP in 1978, which was produced on the basis of these demo recordings! The band split up that very same year. This extremely rare, first and only album on Peter Klimek’s legendary Brutkasten label was pressed in a run of just 1,500 copies. Alongside Carol Of Harvest, Rockband Mammut and P2O5, it is now considered the most sought-after LP on this Nuremberg-based independent label, which is extremely popular among collectors.
