The Swiss power trio After Shave was formed in Biel in 1968 and released a sole album. After several line-up changes, the following line-up was established: Pierre-Alain Kessi (g, voc), Jean-Claude Fontana (b) and Rodolphe Baumgartner. Numerous live gigs in Switzerland, France and Germany finally brought them a record deal. Their guitar-driven heavy rock of the early 70s, with brilliant guitar work and a rock-hard rhythm section, was recorded in several sessions over the years 1971 and 1972 at Soundcraft Studio in Biel. Their eponymous debut album was then released in 1972 on the legendary Swiss label Splendid Records (Country Lane, Pacific Sound). Despite continuous performances in clubs in Switzerland, at an open-air concert in front of tens of thousands of people and with some of the most well-known bands of the time, e.g. as the opening act for the Spencer Davis Group, their LP remained completely unnoticed. A few years later, the band broke up due to lack of money.
Today, their first and only LP as an underground hard rock album is a valuable collector's item, commanding large sums of money.
