The English band Zior was founded in the late 1960s by a quartet of veterans from the local R&B scene in Southend-on-Sea, Essex: Keith Bonsor (voc, org, b, fl), John Truba (g, voc), Barry Skeels (b, voc) and Peter Brewer (dr, perc, p, harp). As a well-known, wild live band, they were deeply involved in black magic and satanic rituals. With their occult-influenced heavy psych and blues rock, Zior were an integral part of the British underground scene. Following their debut album, the band released their second LP under the name The Monument. The songs recorded for the third LP, Every Inch A Man, were originally intended merely as a demo for a second Zior album and had been recorded two years earlier.
The album was then released in 1973, for unknown reasons exclusively in Germany on the Global Records label, but without the band’s knowledge. The group disbanded for good later that same year. For the cover design, the two inner panels of the debut album, designed by the legendary UK artist Keef, were simply used as the front and back covers. Although the album went completely unnoticed at the time of its release, this proto-metal classic in its original German pressing is now considered an extremely sought-after rarity.
