Warpig was a four-piece progressive hard rock band from Woodstock near Toronto in Canada. The band members were guitarist and singer Rick Donmoyer, keyboardist and singer Dana Snitch, bassist Terry Brett and drummer Terry Hook, who had previously played in various amateur bands. After years of practices and local gigs they got a record contract with the tiny independent label Fonthill Records in late 1970. After writing material while on the road, their eponymous debut was finally released in the beginning of 1972. It is regarded as one of the earliest heavy metal albums from the New World. Sadly it was not released outside of Canada, which is why it failed to achieve any commercial success. Nevertheless, the quartet continued to tour.

In the meantime, Fonthill was bought out by London Records in 1973. The new record company subsequently re-released the album in a remastered version, featuring different versions of the two tracks Rock Star and Flaggit and with a revised cover design. Unfortunately, a second album was never realised and the band split up. What remains is yet another hidden gem of guitar-driven hard rock from the early 1970s, for many even one of the first proto-metal albums. A great LP, extremely rare as a Fonthill first pressing and therefore really expensive.
