Truth And Janey were an obscure American cult hard rock band formed in the early 1970s in the big city of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, under the name Truth (after Jeff Beck’s debut album) by guitarist and singer Billy Lee Janey, bassist and singer Steven Bock, and drummer Denis Bunce. Following the release of two singles in 1972 and 1973, the name of founding member and guitarist Billy Janey was incorporated into the band’s name after it emerged that another band called Truth was already claiming the name. Although the trio performed successfully for years in Iowa and neighbouring states, they were unable to secure a contract with a major record label. Consequently, they self-financed their first and only album, which they recorded in 1976 at A and R Recording Studio in Ames, Iowa.

No Rest For The Wicked was released later that same year, in April 1976, by the local independent label Montross Records in an extremely limited pressing of just 1,000 copies, which quickly sold out. The band split up a year later with no prospect of success. Their blend of heavy rock with progressive and bluesy Southern rock elements, extending into proto-metal, is today one of the long-forgotten gems of American hard and heavy rock from the 1970s. The few US originals, which sold out quickly at the time, are now virtually impossible to find and command premium prices.
