Tiger B. Smith was a German power trio from Frankfurt am Main, comprising guitarist and singer Holger Schmidt, bassist Klaus Meinhardt and drummer Karl-Heinz Traut, who emerged from the band Second Life. Thanks to their provocative stage presence and their early heavy metal sound, featuring heavy fuzz guitar and long instrumental jams, they were a sought-after live act and had a loyal fan base. This caught the attention of the major label Philips, which offered them a record deal for an album on its progressive sub-label Vertigo.

In December 1972, they recorded their first and finest LP at the legendary Dierks Studios in Stommeln in a single, complete live session over the course of one day. Dieter Dierks acted as sound engineer, while Peter Hauke was the producer. Their debut album Tiger Rock was released in March 1973 on Vertigo, featuring rather provocative cover photography. It does not represent Krautrock – a stylistic label often applied to most German bands at the time – but instead offers raw, heavy hard rock with psychedelic and bluesy elements, driven by a powerful, pounding bass, superb guitar work and gritty vocals. They were one of the few exceptions on the scene at the time and with their hard rock they shared the stage with top acts such as Deep Purple, UFO and the Scorpions. They recorded a second album in 1974 but then split up. Today this Vertigo LP incl. poster, which was only released in Germany, is a sought-after collector's item.
