The double album Electric Ladyland, Hendrix's epic legacy, saw the light of day in 1968, ten months after Axis: Bold as Love. This third and last album released during his lifetime was a sensational innovation and the only one on which he himself was the producer. Guitar legend Jimi Hendrix played guitar sounds that no one had ever heard before, building on his own innovations from the previous two LPs. He also developed pioneering recording techniques and sounds together with sound engineer Eddie Kramer. With the support of renowned musicians such as Steve Winwood, Jack Casady (Jefferson Airplane), Al Kooper, Brian Jones and others, he pushed his psychedelic rock and funk sounds to the limits.
The album cover with 19 naked women, which was only released in the UK, was soon banned and withdrawn from circulation. That's why this UK edition on Track Records is the rarest release and sought after worldwide. But even with the other cover designs, it is and remains a masterpiece of psychedelic rock and one of the best albums in music history.
