The Hand Of Doom was a West German heavy metal band from the small town of Bad Hersfeld, near the former border with East Germany. Founded in the mid-1970s by Uwe Ellenberger (g, voc), Klaus Bode (b) and Karl-Heinz Wehde (dr), singer Andreas „Iggi“ Rößner joined in 1978. They countered their small-town frustration and boredom with martial and raw hard rock. After a few gigs, the band came to an early end in 1978, as the members could not cope with their lead singer’s aggressive behaviour. Surprisingly, however, he persuaded them a year later to record an LP. This took place in 1979 in three days at Mobile Sounds Tonstudio, a small 8-track studio in Delmenhorst near Bremen.
Their first and only album, Poisonoise, was released in the same year as a limited edition of 500 hand-numbered copies on the label Doom Records, founded specifically for this purpose. It presented an uncompromising, hard-hitting power metal with punk rock elements, which was unique in Germany at the time. However, the band split up soon afterwards, as this groundbreaking hardcore album unfortunately received no attention whatsoever. Today, it is a virtually priceless rarity that is at the top of the wish list not only for metal fans.
