This obscure power trio from New Zealand was formed in 1971 as Space Farm by guitarist and singer Harvey Mann, bassist Neil Edwards and Glen Absolum on drums. Mann and Absolum had previously played in the legendary blues-rock band known as The Underdogs. With the support of temporary member Bob Gillette on saxophone, they recorded their only album in 1972 for the small independent label Zodiac. The hard, psychedelic space rock, featuring highly professional guitar work by Harvey Mann as well as elements of blues and prog, reflects a clear influence from Hendrix. The lyrics on their debut album Going Home To Eternity, delivered with atmospheric vocals, display a thematic unity: they deal with universal freedom, infinity and eternity.
Unfortunately, the album – with its beautiful, imaginative cover design – failed to resonate with the public and sold poorly as a result. Despite numerous successful concerts at the forefront of the underground movement Down Under, the band eventually split up in 1973. The original New Zealand LP, which was released in a limited edition, is now regarded worldwide as a sought-after rarity and commands correspondingly high prices.
