Sameti was a band from Munich, formed in 1971 on the initiative of percussionist and singer Christian „Shrat“ Thiele after he had left Amon Düül (later Amon Düül II). In April 1972, with the support of guest musicians Robert Eliscu on oboe and flute and saxophonist Jürgen Benz, they recorded their debut album at Bavaria Studios. Alongside Thiele, the band members at the time of recording were lead guitarist Walter Bratengeier, bassist Eckart Voggenreiter and drummer Klaus Götzner. The self-titled LP was released in December 1972 on the young Brain label, with cover art by Edda Köchel, who also designed the nine art prints for the Faust album So Far.
The music offers a rather experimental approach that leaned towards cosmic Krautrock, but was based on bluesy hard rock with a few psychedelic and progressive influences provided by saxophone and flute. The fifth and final track, which occupies the whole of side 2, is the highlight of the album with its acid-drenched improvisations, psychedelic guitars and driving rhythms. However, the release failed to achieve any success. After several line-up changes and a second LP, the band finally broke up in 1974. Like so many releases on the legendary Brain label, this LP was also produced in only a small edition and has since become a rare and expensive Krautrock rarity.
