Room was a short-lived ensemble from Dorset, England. From around 1968 they were a blues rock cover band that played numerous gigs in the Dorset area. In February 1969 singer and girlfriend of Chris Williams (g) Jane Kevern joined the band. With her, the style changed and the band transformed from a simple blues band to an imaginative and progressive rock band. As a quintet with Steve Edge (g), Roy Putt (b) and Bob Jenkins (dr, perc) they played for a year as the house band at the Ritz in Bournemouth.
A Melody Maker talent competition was held there in December 69, in which the band won a record contract with Deram as second prize. This album was the result. It was released a year later and sadly mostly ignored. With it's complex work featuring heavy riffs, tight drumming, frenzied guitar solos, brass and strings and the powerful, distinctive voice of Jane Kevern it was ahead of it's time.
Pre-Flight as an early progressive rock treasure is now a really scarce world-wide 70s collectors gem. And one of the rarest Deram releases ever.
