Founded in 1970, the heavy progressive band Patto created an intriguing blend of catchy rock riffs, unusual tempo changes, incredible guitar solos, rousing vocals, jazz interludes and humour. Absolutely fantastic! For one reason or another, however, they were denied the recognition that many felt they deserved. This applies not only to their first self-titled LP, but also to this second album, Hold Your Fire. It was recorded at London’s Island Studios, once again produced by Muff Winwood. Released in December 1971, the album was entirely centred on Mike Patto’s rough vocals and the virtuoso guitarist Ollie Halsall.
And on top of it all: Original UK Vertigo copies featuring one of the greatest album covers of all time, of course designed by Roger Dean! Despite having created a comprehensive work of art and remaining in demand as a live act, the LP went completely unnoticed and the band were dropped by the Vertigo label. Exorbitant prices are now being paid for this masterpiece, which is sought after worldwide.
