Nick Drake was born in Rangoon, Burma (now Myanmar) in 1948. His first album, Five Leaves Left, one of three recordings (Bryter Layter and Pink Moon), was released just 21 years later. At that time he was still at Cambridge University. Named after the warning message near the end of packs of cigarette papers, it was an instant classic album. He was accompanied by members of the British folk-rock group Fairport Convention. It contains many of his most memorable songs such as Fruit Tree, Cello Song, Time Has Told Me and River Man. Despite this obvious quality, it sank without a trace with barely 3,000 sold copies. But for sure one of the most beautiful and melancholy albums ever recorded!
