Morning Dew hailed from Topeka, Kansas, USA, and was formed in 1966 from the remnants of the disbanded folk-rock band The Toads. Through numerous live performances and several single releases, the band gained a reputation over the years as a local and regional garage band. Towards the end of the 1960s, however, their sound became increasingly experimental, harder and more complex. This impressed Roulette producer Fred Munao, who offered the band a record deal after a live concert in June 1969. Two months later, Malcolm Robinson (g, voc), Don Anderson (g), Blair Honeyman (b) and Don Sligar (dr) travelled to New York to record their self-titled debut album at Bob Gallo Studios on 42nd Street.

The recording sessions lasted only three days: the songs were played live, and the vocals were recorded afterwards. Why the release on the major label Roulette in September 1970, featuring a cover photo of a naked hippie couple, took over a year remains unknown. The record company promoted Morning Dew’s first and only LP barely at all, and it sold poorly. Disappointed and disillusioned, the band eventually gave up and split up in May 1971. Today, their sought-after album, which fetches high prices as an original copy, is regarded as a highly acclaimed US psychedelic rock classic.
