The famous proto-punk band MC5 from Detroit, the Motor City (MC), founded in 1964 by the two guitarists Wayne Kramer and Fred „Sonic“ Smith, released their debut album Kick Out The Jams in the USA in February 1969. It is a live album documenting a compilation of two concert evenings on 30 and 31 October 1968 at the Grande Ballroom in Detroit. The Italian vinyl edition was released in December 1969 by Vedette Records, with the group photo from the inside of the US gatefold cover featured on the outer sleeves. The back cover displays the complete Italian translation of John Sinclair’s speech. As their manager, he promoted not only his political views but also his band and their high-energy concerts.

Kick Out The Jams is an essential proto-punk live album and a rousing, loud and raucous rock'n'roll blast infused with political ambitions. The controversial exclamation „motherfucker“, later replaced by „brothers and sisters“, made the band famous nationwide. When the Italian edition was released in late 1969, the band and their provocative album were already being boycotted in America due to the vulgar language. Nevertheless, it remains one of the most legendary live records in rock history. The Italian version, with its alternative cover, was unique and was never reissued. It is therefore extremely rare and highly sought-after, not only by Italian collectors.
