The Belgian band Lagger Blues Machine was founded in Vlaams-Brabant at the end of 1969 by brothers Christian Duponchell (org) and Jean-Luc Duponcheel (dr), together with Jose Cuisset (g) and Michael Maes (b). After several years of intensive touring, they became one of the most important bands in Belgium. As the band name suggests, they first played blues and blues-rock. When Vincent Mottoulle (org) and Carmelo Pilotta (fl, sax) joined the band in 1971, the focus shifted to an instrumental progressive and psychedelic rock sound that not only borrowed from the blues or jazz-rock fusion. They finally recorded their only eponymous album in 1972 and released it on the major label CBS. They played a jazzy, complex progressive rock reminiscent of the most important bands from Canterbury.
Unfortunately, the album, which was only released in Belgium in a small edition, was not a success. Nevertheless, the band continued to tour for several more years. They then disbanded in 1975.
