Emerging from the band Organisation, the legendary electronic pioneers from Düsseldorf, Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider-Esleben (both voc, keyb, str, ww, dr, elec), played as a trio with a drummer as Kraftwerk from 1970 onwards. After two LP releases featuring experimental Krautrock, Kraftwerk as a duo began to sound like the later world-famous Kraftwerk on their third album. This LP is commonly regarded as a bridge or link between their early experiments with amplified acoustic instruments and their subsequent song-oriented commercial electropop. Ralf & Florian was recorded in parts in July 1973 in their Kling-Klang Studio, which had been founded in 1970. Further recordings were made in Cologne and Munich, all with the assistance of mastermind Conny Plank. The LP was released at the end of the year, again on the major label Philips. Some of the first pressings even included a poster with the so-called Musicomix.
However, this album did not enjoy great popularity and remained the neglected stepchild. Even the duo themselves ignored it and, after only one vinyl reissue in 1975, still refuse to authorise any further official releases. This, combined with the band's fame, made this third album a sought after cult object worldwide. Even rarer, of course, is the original vinyl as a white label promo edition.
