This is the second and final album by the London band Killing Floor (a name borrowed from a Howlin’ Wolf song), which enjoys cult status, especially among fans of British blues rock with progressive influences. Out Of Uranus was recorded in 1970 at Mayfair Sound Studios by Bill Thorndycraft (voc, harm), Mike Clarke (g), Stuart McDonald (b, voc), Bas Smith (dr), Lou Martin (p) and Paul Spencer Mac (vln) as a guest musician. It was released in November 1970 on the British independent label Penny Farthing, owned by Larry Page, who also supervised the recording sessions as executive producer.

Musically, it primarily features powerful blues-rock with influences ranging from psychedelia to occasional progressive elements provided by Martin’s keyboard work and Spencer’s violin playing. The varied sound oscillates between heavy power chords, idiosyncratic post-1960s freakbeat and mainstream pub rock.

As the track Call For the Politicians, released as a single, also sold well in Germany, the album was even released there. However, neither this nor the remarkable cover design by Rick Breach, nationwide tours or a number of BBC radio sessions were enough to secure its success. The album sold poorly and the group disbanded up shortly afterwards. The original British release on the rare Penny Farthing label is now highly sought-after and has become an expensive purchase.
