Following his self-titled debut album, which was released in June 1975, the American guitarist and singer Jeff Liberman from Chicago published his follow-up album, Solitude Within, later that same year. Like his first LP, he released this one as a private pressing on his own label, Librah. It was recorded in just a few hours at P.S. Recording Studio in Chicago and produced by Liberman himself. He was supported by his three fellow musicians: drummer and percussionist Thomas, bassist Philip, and Dan Lomas on Moog synthesiser, bass, French horn and guitar.

The quartet primarily presented a blues-infused style of heavy psychedelic guitar rock featuring numerous solos, saturated with dynamic fuzz effects. He expanded his varied guitar playing with vocals, various jazz elements and some quiet, gentle folk grooves, as well as occasional experimental excursions. In 1978, after his third unsuccessful self-released album, he retired from the music business. All three rare LPs were among the first private US pressings, which gained recognition amongst psychedelic collectors a decade later. Solitude Within is generally considered his best album and is accordingly the most sought-after.
