Incredible Hog was a power trio born in the British blues boom of the early 70s, in London in 1972. It consisted of Ken Gordon (g, harm, voc), Jim Holmes (b) and Tony Awin (dr). They took their band name from the superhero Incredible Hulk from the Marvel comics. Apart from a few jam sessions, they had few live performances. So they opened a club for their live events, which they advertised in the Melody Maker. Their hard-hitting, bluesy rock caused a local stir, but no record company was interested in them. Eventually they signed a recording contract with the relatively unknown label Dart. The band's debut album, Volume 1, was recorded in mid-1973. The producer was Roger Watson, who had already worked on such classics as G.F. Fitz-Gerald and Zakarrias. The album, full of energetic hard rock and psychedelic heavy blues rock, was well received by critics but sold poorly. After several nationwide tours, some internal disputes led to the band's break-up that same year.
The album was released in three different cover versions. In addition to the English version, there was also an alternative German edition as well as a French one. The first and only album is now revered as a classic of proto-metal with echoes of hard/heavy/blues rock, and the original editions are achieving astronomical heights among collectors.
