The bizarrely named band 'Igginbottom was founded in Bradford, Yorkshire in 1968. They recorded their first and only album in 1969 after a successful live debut in London. It was released on Decca's progressive sub-label Deram. With this musical masterpiece the 22 years young Allan Holdsworth started his career as a jazz fusion guitarist and composer together with Steve Robinson (g, voc), Mick Skelly (b) and Dave Freeman (dr). It represents a completely unique jazz-rock fusion that lives from the two outstanding guitarists. The lively and fused guitar lines are joined by Skelly's warm, dancing bass and Freeman's playful drums.
But in this early prog and fusion years they delivered with the avant-garde jazzy 'Igginbottom's Wrench one of the strangest albums of the year, that could not be categorised as rock, prog or jazz. It is therefore not surprising that the album received no attention and therefore remained on the shelves. With the Japanese CD re-release 20 years later, a worldwide interest in this unique album began. The few rare UK originals are now firmly in collector's hands and therefore no longer to be found.
