In 1971, the band Gleemen changed their name to Garybaldi. The line-up remained the same, as did the unusually guitar-heavy hard prog sound for Italy, with Bambi Fossati's wild, Hendrix-inspired guitar playing. The difference was a generally more progressive sound due to more complex compositions and the more frequent use of keyboards by keyboardist Lio Marchi. The solid rhythm section continued to consist of Angelo Traverso (b) and Maurizio Cassinelli (dr), holding the whole thing together well, so that the guitar and keyboard parts could shine. In July 1972, they recorded the first of two albums under their new name. The now significantly more progressive and diverse sound was particularly evident in the long 21-minute track on side 2. Overall, it was a mixture of progressive, partly bluesy rock and guitar- and keyboard-heavy, melodic and romantic songs. The LP was then released at the end of the year in a spectacular triple gatefold cover by the later Italian comic star Guido Crepax. The outer cover shows a beautiful, huge naked woman surrounded by animals such as elephants, rhinos, monkeys, big cats and crocodiles, who use her as a playground. The three inner panels feature a sexy comic strip. A rare and sought-after gem of Italian prog, both acoustically and visually.
