Daybreak is one of the most obscure Swedish heavy rock albums. It was recorded in the spring of 1976 at Gothenburg Sound Studio by the four-piece band Epizootic, which had been formed in Gothenburg a year earlier. The group consisted of Pär Ericsson (vocals, flute, bass, glockenspiel), Bengt Fischer (guitar), Lars Liljegren (piano, synthesiser, vocals) and Lars Johansson (drums, flute). They released their first and only LP as a self-financed, private pressing on their own label Fejl, with a simple black-and-white cover to save costs. Production costs were also kept down, resulting in mediocre recording quality, though this was more than compensated for by the energetic performances during the recording sessions.

The album features ten complex, gritty hard rock songs sung in English, with some psychedelic elements and subtle jazz influences, driven by wild and powerful electric guitar riffs. Breaks and tempo changes within the tracks, along with the occasional use of flutes and synthesizers, ensure a varied album and lend the production a psychedelic flair. Following an extremely positive review in „The Encyclopedia of Swedish Progressive Music“, this sole LP by Epizootic as a Swedish original pressing is now a globally sought-after rarity on the collectors’ market, changing hands for considerable sums.
