The obscure German band from Munich, who took their name Ejwuusl Wessahqqan from a science-fiction story by the US writer Clark Ashton Smith, were formed in early 1971 from the predecessor group Time Of Waste after the guitarist left the band. The remaining trio, who were associated with Amon Düül II, consisted of keyboardist Michael Winzker, bassist René Filous and drummer Jürgen Wollenburg. As no record label was interested in their organ-dominated psychedelic rock, they decided in 1975 to record a self-financed album independently. Their self-titled debut was released in a simple white sleeve with the band’s name in black, illegible lettering – a deliberate stylistic choice.

It features four expansive, freely improvised instrumental pieces without vocals, built around organ sounds in the style of progressive rock, partly with typical psychedelic undertones and classical influences, blended with idiosyncratic rhythmic structures. A homemade, seven-string „Filouphone“ – an invention by bassist René Filous – not only replaces the guitar but is also a unique feature that enriches the sound with oriental elements. Like many German private pressings of the time, these were first and foremost works of art rather than commercial attempts to become rich and famous. An almost impossible-to-find release, as this limited edition of just 300 copies has completely vanished into private collections.
