After the modest success of their eponymous debut album, the Cologne-based band Eiliff set to work in the spring of 1972 and recorded their second LP, Girlrls!, at the renowned Windrose Studios in Hamburg. Rainer Goltermann returned as producer, while Friedrich Bischoff served as sound engineer this time. The result was basically the same as the previous album: high-energy progressive jazz-rock featuring extended jams on guitar, keyboards and saxophone, built upon heavy guitar riffs and powerful organ passages. The tracks are slightly shorter, but by no means more catchy. On the contrary, thanks to numerous vocal and sound collages, the overall sound comes across as more experimental and innovative.

The album, once again with cover art by Witt Design Studio, was released later that same year, once more exclusively in Germany. Like their first LP, this release also went largely unnoticed, despite the quintet’s impressive musical skill. Due to the lack of success, Philips decided not to renew the contract. After Rainer Brüninghaus was offered the chance to join Eberhard Weber’s The Colours Of Chloë in 1973, the first signs of the band’s break-up began to emerge, until the band finally disbanded years later. Both original LPs are now highly sought-after and expensive collector’s items, which is entirely justified by their high-quality musical content.
