After the modest success of their eponymous debut album, the quintet Eiliff set to work in the spring of 1972 and recorded their second LP, Girlrls!, at Windrose Studios in Hamburg, again with Rainer Goltermann as producer. The result was basically the same as the previous album: progressive jazz rock with extended jams on guitar, keyboards and saxophone, built over heavy guitar and organ riffs. The songs are shorter, but by no means more catchy. On the contrary, the numerous speech and sound collages make the overall sound more experimental and innovative. The album, again with cover design by Witt Design Studio, was released in the same year and, despite their phenomenal musical talent, remained largely unnoticed, like their first LP.
As a result, Philips decided not to renew their contract. After Rainer Brüninghaus received an offer to join Volker Kriegel in 1973, the first signs of disintegration began to appear, until the band finally broke up years later. Both original LPs are now highly sought-after and expensive collector's items, which is entirely justified by their high-quality musical content.
