Dschinn was a hard rock band from the Marburg area in Hesse and yet another of the many obscure, short-lived German bands that appeared on the rock music scene in the early 1970s. Emerging from the quite successful beat band The Dischas, the musicians decided on a radical change of style at the start of the 1970s, as the 1960s pop-rock beat was going out of fashion. They adopted the mysterious name Dschinn, named after the spiritual beings in the Arab mythology, and from then on played hard rock with strong psychedelic influences. Searching for a new record label, they quickly secured a contract with Bacillus Records, a subsidiary of Bellaphon, likely due to their previous fame. Peter Lorenz (voc, g, harp), Bernd Capito (g), Silvio Verfürth (b) and Ulrich Mund (dr) recorded their first and only self-titled album at the Tonstudio Mitte in Bremen in 1972. It was released in the same year with a magnificent cover, designed by the artist Klaus Holitzka, inspired by Salvador Dalí.
However, their classic, energetic hard rock sound, featuring heavy guitars, distinctive solos and riffs, dynamic drums and powerful vocals, was not destined for success. Their debut album failed to make an impact and the band disbanded shortly afterwards. This little masterpiece experienced a renaissance in the following decades through numerous reissues, and the rare German original is now a much sought-after rarity.
