Named after a famous character in a novel by the Irish writer Oscar Wilde, the German band Dorian Gray recorded their first and only album in 1976 and then disappeared from the scene. The musicians, all from Meinerzhagen in North Rhine-Westphalia, were Claudia Schippel (voc), Filler Mueschenborn (g, voc), Rüdiger Brune (keyb), Herbert Jassmann (b) and Kurt Paetzold (dr). The unknown, non-professional quintet created a rather unusual sound of progressive rock with punk influences and contrasting, spacy folk with 60s psychedelia and lovely female vocals. Only 200 copies of the self-produced LP, released that same year on the obscure New Blood label, were allegedly made. This is probably the reason why it is one of the rarest and most valuable Krautrock albums and an expensive collector's rarity.
