Doctor Downtrip was a five-piece band from Brussels, Belgium, formed in 1969. After releasing a few singles and performing live at major festivals, they recorded their eponymous debut album at Start Studios in Buizingen near Brussels between 29 October and 2 November 1973. Jean-Paul Goosens (voc), Michael Heslop (g, voc, from the band Burning Plague), Serge Paul (g), John Hastry (b) and Paul van der Velden (dr) played blues and boogie rock with southern rock riffs and AOR influences. It was released in the same year on the major label CBS. They performed regularly in rock clubs and at festivals throughout the country. However, the two guitarists Heslop and Paul left the band in 1975, whereupon it started anew with two new members under a different name. Like Burning Plague's first and only album, this sole LP by Doctor Downtrip is considered a groundbreaking Belgian blues rock album and is also highly sought after by collectors as an original vinyl record.
