Dhope was an obscure band from Paderborn, Germany, which was officially formed in 1978 after various successful live sessions in their hometown by musicians Thomas Haberland (vocals), Niko Dragun (keyboards), Reinhard Hennecke (guitar), Erlend Luck (guitar), Claus Peter (bass) and Heiko Klingenberg (drums). In the same year, they recorded their only album in a second-rate recording studio in just five days, as their financial resources were limited. It was released as a private pressing on the mini-label Harz Records. With their mix of German and English lyrics, heavy progressive rock with two fuzz guitars, melodic organ and synthesizer waves on a solid rhythmic foundation, they continued to be a sought-after live act in their region.
On the other hand, with their complex prog rock of the early 70s, they unfortunately completely missed the zeitgeist of punk and new wave in 1978/79, and so the album went totally unnoticed. Nevertheless, this ultra-rare prog rock gem from Germany is coveted by collectors worldwide. In addition, according to guitarist Reinhard Hennecke, a large part of the already small print run of 1,000 copies was destroyed in the 90s.
