Cravinkel was founded in 1969 by Gert „Kralle“ Krawinkel in Wilhelmshaven. As the guitarist and singer he was joined by George Meier (g, voc, perc), Rolf „Mick“ Kaiser (b, voc) and Günter Thoenes (dr). One year after their self-titled debut, the quartet produced their second album Garden Of Loneliness. This marked a departure from the British terrain of blues rock with short and punchy pieces. The new musical directive was longer jam sessions with expansive instrumental passages. The three long progressive songs feature American-style acid rock, interesting tempo changes, psychedelic arrangements and polyphonic vocals with English lyrics. The album, released in 1971, appeared in a single cover with impressive psychedelic artwork and included a giant poster. The producer was again Rainer Goltermann, who had worked for Philips with numerous German bands such as Frumpy, Eiliff, Weed and Dull Knife.
However, the band received hardly any support from their record company, so the LP hardly found any buyers. In addition, the band lost all their belongings in a house fire, so that the band disbanded in late summer 1972, rather disillusioned. Original Philips pressings including posters are very rare today and therefore extremely sought after by collectors.
