The obscure band Cardeilhac, founded in 1970 and named after a southern French municipality south-west of Toulouse, was, along with Krokodil, one of the first progressive groups from Switzerland. The quartet from Lausanne consisted of Denis Angelini (voc), Rinaldo Häusier (g), Andrö Locher (org), J.C. Balsinger (b) and Gaston Balmer (dr). Their hard progressive rock with English lyrics, inspired by British proto-prog bands, helped them to produce a record. Their eponymous debut was released in 1971 on the Swiss mini label dbr (Decibel Records) as a private pressing in an ultra-limited edition. Heavy keyboard sounds alternate with aggressive guitar solos reminiscent of Uriah Heep and Deep Purple. Unfortunately, this one album was all that remained.
After its release, the band and its members completely disappeared into obscurity. Nothing is known about the musicians' careers after the band's dissolution. This only LP by this Swiss band is an absolute rarity today as an original pressing.
