Bobak, Jons, Malone was a short-lived and spontaneous studio project linked to the Morgan Sound Recording Studios in London. Mike Bobak and Andy Johns, working as sound engineers, were not only experienced studio professionals but also accomplished musicians. Together with Wilson Malone, the bandleader of the 1960s pop band Orange Bicycle, the spontaneously formed studio trio decided to produce their own album. So, at the end of 1968, they recorded their debut album Motherlight for the short-lived label Morgan Blue Town. While Malone handled keyboards, drums and vocals and wrote most of the lyrics, Bobak on guitar and Johns on bass also took care of the technical aspects of the recordings. The result, released in March 1969, was a psychedelic pop-rock album featuring unique arrangements and a wide stylistic range. Largely driven by keyboards and accented by occasional fuzz guitar, the album, together with its curious lyrics, creates a surreal, dreamy and slightly eerie atmosphere unlike any other psychedelic album.

As Bobak, Jons and Malone never performed live and the record company faced distribution difficulties, this psychedelic gem unfortunately faded into obscurity without a trace. Today, alongside Pussy Plays by The Pussy Group, it ranks among the most sought-after and expensive LPs of the British psychedelic scene of the 1960s. A total of only 200 copies were pressed!
