As a backing band for American R&B acts Barbed Wire Sandwich toured successfully in the London club and pub scene. Almost two years later, at the end of 1969, they recorded their only self-titled debut album, which was released in 1970 by Decca Nova in England, Germany and France. The producer was the internationally renowned David Hitchcock. Brian Short (voc), Derek Brooks (g), Rod Price (g, voc), Stu Brooks (b) and Phil Lenoir (dr) played a highly guitar-driven blues rock with some psychedelic elements. Sadly their debut was released a few years too late to ride the waves of the blues rock success they've experienced a few years before, so they disbanded afterwards.
It's a true heavy blues rock classic and a killer album, which is perhaps the main reason why this LP is incredibly sought after by collectors. Another reason could be that the band was a kind of melting pot for other bands: the two Brooks brothers founded the now highly regarded band Leaf Hound with three other musicians, while Paul Kossoff and Simon Kirke became world famous with their band Free.
