The obscure hard rock band Baumstam was founded in 1972 in Witten in the Ruhr area. During numerous tours in Germany in the following years, there were various line-up changes and the final line-up of the popular band was then: Ulrich Klawitter (g, voc), Michael Lobbe (g), Volker Wobbe (b) and Gerhardt Meyer (dr, perc). They played heavy rock with psychedelic influences, always with hard fuzz guitars at the forefront, until then unique in German rock history. In 1975, they recorded their debut album On Tour in Lothar Simmsheuser's Knöterich Studio in Witten-Annen over a weekend. It is therefore not a live album, as the title might suggest. The private pressing was pressed in a very small edition on their own BMF label and distributed by the band themselves. After its release, the band had numerous performance opportunities, but split up in 1977 due to internal disputes.
Today, the LP has cult status among collectors worldwide and, as the original pressing was only distributed in very small numbers, extremely high prices are paid for vinyl originals.
