In From The Cold was their first and only album and also one of the first releases on Decca's newly founded progressive sub-label Nova. Guitarist Bob Weston and drummer Terry Sims teamed up with bassist Ron Bending and singer Steve Bailey to form the short-lived band Ashkan in late 1968. With their guitar-driven, hard psychedelic and blues rock, the London quartet fit perfectly into the British heavy blues rock scene in keeping with the zeitgeist of the late 1960s. Led by Bob Weston's driving guitar riffs, Steve Bailey's bluesy, raw vocals and an excellently coordinated and powerful rhythm section of drums and bass, they recorded their debut album at Decca Studios in 1969, which was released in the same year.
Although they proved with this album that they could play at the forefront of the British heavy blues rock scene of the late 1960s, numerous critics rated it as ordinary and unimaginative. The record company also failed to provide sufficient support for this ambitious work, which is why the LP flopped and the band broke up in disappointment. Today, this album is considered an overlooked classic of guitar-driven psychedelic heavy blues rock.
