Andromeda was a powerful and promising British power trio in the late 1960s. The band was formed in 1966 by the excellent guitarist Ian Du Cann (John Cann). After recording a few demos, their manager Tim Sharman secured them a contract with the major label RCA. In June 1969, they recorded their self-produced debut album at Advision Studios in London. The trio consisted of Du Cann, bassist and singer Mick Hawksworth and drummer Ian McLane. Their self-titled album was released on RCA at the end of September. Du Cann not only impressed with his brilliant guitar playing, but also designed the imaginative cover art. The music was guitar-heavy, heavy psychedelic and hard progressive rock.

Although the album was acclaimed by critics and received support from the well-known radio DJ John Peel, it proved to be a commercial failure. The band played a few more concerts, but unfortunately they disbanded in early 1970. Du Cann left the group to form the band Atomic Rooster with Vincent Crane and Carl Palmer, while Mick Hawksworth played bass and sang on the first and only LP by Fuzzy Duck. Today, the album is regarded as a „proto-heavy metal“ masterpiece by a band that had the potential to rise to become one of the most famous and successful acts in the heavy progressive rock genre. The original RCA LP from 1969 is highly sought-after among collectors and therefore extremely rare.
