Thanks to the advocacy of legendary radio presenter and DJ John Peel and the positive reviews in Melody Maker, the debut album by the German musicians' commune Amon Düül II from Munich was also released in England. This UK edition of Phallus Dei was launched in a small quantity on the Liberty label. Unlike the German edition, it featured an unique psychedelic cover artwork that perfectly illustrates the innovative blend of progressive rock, krautrock, traditional folk, and raga.
As the LP was only successful in Germany and is considered a milestone of psychedelic krautrock, the English original as the „blue Liberty“ is now a rare and sought-after collector's item worldwide.
